Hey alex!
this is my first time reading your blog, but I really enjoy it!

I have two girls; my youngest is 14 months old this month....only 4 days older than your little guy! (DOB: April 25th) She has been in her own crib since day 1 and now her own room since she was 6 months old. Somethings that work for me:

Johnson and Johnson Lavender Baby wash and soap
-Nothing like a nice warm, relaxing bath to wind them (and you!) down

moderate room temperature
-I know, it sounds crazy, but my girl will not sleep if it is too hot or too cold....try and keep the rom temp the same at all times

I know the "experts" say "no", but my babygirl would only sleep through the night sleeping on her belly in a fetal position. When I would observe her sleeping on her back, I noticed she was "jumpy", you know? Like, she was having a dream that she was falling or something!

Last but not least; Gripe water has done miracles for my life! Those nights when she would just not let us put her down, I would give her somegripe water as a final resort and she would be out in minutes! The stuff is great!

But of course, we stil have those struggles with little Sophia where she screams bloody murder when we put her in her bed, even though she is walk-into-walls tired and rubbing her eyes, she is still crying. if it goes longer than 15 minutes I usually go and get her so the neighbors dont call Social Services! lol! (that actaully happened to a friend of mine who had a colicy baby and who just happened to be a Social Worker herself!) and I'll let her walk around and see that she is really not missing out on much. If in the early morning hours, I am like you and can't be bothered with the crying and coming and going back to the room every 5,10,15 minutes so I just go get her and fall asleep with her chubby little feet in my hands! I have left her once for 20 minutes in the early AM and she did go back to sleep, but that may have been a one off situation!

Love my girls to death, but hate the loss of sleep that motherhood has bestowed on me! I am a raging Psychopatch without adequate sleep...so believe me, I know how painful this is!

Good luck, and let me know what, if anything has helped you....I need all the help I can get as well!

My solution was to migrate my babies bit-by-bit to be on their own. If you have a port-a-crib (and I KNOW you do), put it right up against your bed tonight and laydown as if you are going to sleep - or even better, go to sleep at the same time. Let your son sleep in the port-a-crib right up against your bed for about a week. This serves two purposes: (1) he feels next to you and (2) you don't have to go far to sooth him as he is just an arm's length away.

After about a week, move the crib side-ways - about 3-feet from the bed. After another week, move the crib to the wall next to the door, then finally in to his room. After about a week in the port-a-crib in his own room, you should be able to lay him back to his crib with little protest because we should be back on his regular sleep schedule.
