Brad Booth wins the Downtown Showdown in His Own Hometown
Brad Yukon Booth won the Edgewater Casino’s Downtown Showdown this morning at 2am in Vancouver BC, a place he calls home these days. Beating out 340 players in a local tournament may seem like small fish for the likes of
poker pro Yukon Booth but it’s more than a quick cash grab when a pro plays in his hometown.
When I called Brad to congratulate him of course he was his humble self. He’s pretty modest when it comes to self promotion. It was his birthday on the 20th and he had announced to his friends over drinks the night before that he felt like his luck was changing. This was going to be his year. Well he certainly proved that over the weekend.
Now you’re probably saying, “Big deal! He won a local tournament”. Compared to the the Ivey Bluff this seems like it wouldn’t be a very significant win for Brad but it’s the contrary. When you’re a pro like Brad playing a tournament in your hometown is a tough weekend at the tables!! Large bounty or not there every player in there is gunning for the chance to knock Booth out. It’s the next best thing to winning the tournament.
Maybe Brad’s right. His luck is changing. I hope so. He’s certainly very entertaining to watch when he’s at his best.
Happy Birthday Brad!
Just to refresh. Here’s the Ivey clip.
